Our Experience

Rusheen Bay Replacement Housing

This project involved the demolition and replacement of an existing house. The application was located in Rusheen Bay, Co. Galway, and was surrounded by both the Galway Bay SAC and Inner Galway Bay SPA. This site was extremely sensitive in terms of landscape/visual impact and ecology. Due to the proximity to the SPA wintering bird surveys were carried out on the site to ensure the development had no impact on bird species associated with the SPA.

The construction phase of the development required bespoke measures to block any impacts on the Natura 2000 sites. The development was also surrounded by mature trees and required bat surveys also to prevent any impacts on Irelands protected bats. This office acted as Planning and Environmental consultant for the project and prepared all necessary reports. Permission was granted by the Planning Authority within the minimum 8 week period.
